Jessica Galbreth Fairy Artist

Nemesis Now produce ranges of figurines for fantasy designers. Here is some background information and quotes from one of our  most popular artists Jessica Galbreth.
Jessica Galbreth
Jessica Galbreth
Mythic fantasy artist Jessica Galbreth was born on April 29th, 1974 in Toledo, Ohio.  Today, she makes her home and studio in Waterville, Ohio with her husband Josh and their two children.  Though Jessica did study fine art with a major in painting for three years at the Toledo Museum of Art, she also considers herself largely a self-taught artist.  She crafts her original works of art mostly with watercolors, pen and ink, but at times also utilizes an airbrush and acrylic for certain effects.
She is perhaps most celebrated for her ability to capture the haunting and often mysterious beauty of goddesses and faeries from mythology.  Each of her visions brought to life on paper have a personality of their own, and often evoke strong feelings in those who view them.  Some of her faeries are elegant, sweet and wistful, while others are defiant, dark and powerful.

When asked about the path she chose to follow with her art, Jessica has this to say…

“I am often asked why I chose to paint images of myth and fantasy for my art career.  It honestly never seemed like a choice, as this is what is truly in my heart.  From the time I was a small child, I have loved fantasy art, especially art with a basis in mythology.  I am inspired by many things…mother nature in all her beauty, the intricate myths and stories of ancient cultures, the shadowy mysteries of the moon, and the innocence and simplicity I see in the eyes of my young children.  It is my most sincerest hope that my artwork serves to remind others of the magic that surrounds us and lives within us always.”     – Jessica Galbreth

The Fairy Folk: Gothic Fairies

Whether young or old, most people find themselves at one point or another fascinated with fairies.  One particular point of fascination lies in fairy art, particularly that of artists such as Amy Brown, Jasmine Becket-Griffith and Michele Lee Phelan who specialize in images of dark and gothic fairies.  So how did we come from the legends of fairies and fae to collecting fairy figurines and dark fairy art prints?  The answer most likely lies in what those artistic fairies generally represent… the beauty and magic that too often seems to be missing from modern life.
The fairies of legend started out quite a bit different than those that we know today… many of the old legends depicted fairies as being tall and radiant or short and ugly.  Many old world fairies were considered to be malicious or at the very least mischievous; they were believed to steal from around the house and sometimes were even thought to kidnap small children and leave fairy creatures in their place.  Over the years, however, the view of fairies in folklore began to change.
By the Victorian age, fairies had begun to assume the forms that we know today.  With their beauty and the magic hinted at by their wings, good fairies began appearing more often in children’s stories and works of fantasy.  Fairies became somewhat common in artwork, with their images appearing in paintings and even photographs.  So-called dark fairies and gothic fairies began to appear as well, with their dark glamour fueling a new resurgence of fairy art for both fairy and gothic collectors to enjoy.

So Christmas is over and done with and the next big celebration is Valentines Day.

Giving a gift to one’s significant other for Valentine’s Day is something that is very close to the heart for everyone across the world. Furthermore, giving a Valentine’s Day gift to a significant other who is inclined towards the gothic aspect of life is not only something that is close to the heart but is also very difficult. Being gothic is not just an affectation; it is more a way of life for the people involved in it. This is exactly why the choice of gothic Valentine’s Day gift needs to be very well thought out.
We might not sell traditional Valentines gifts, but we do have a fantastic selection of Gothic or Alternative Valentines Gifts. Here are a couple of ideas.
